Spain crush Turkey to advance

Defending European champions Spain booked their place in the last 16 round of Euro 2016 on Friday with a convincing 3-0 win against Turkey in Nice.

Vicente del Bosque's men bossed the Group D tie from the kickoff, with a double by Juventus' Alvaro Morata and a first competitive international goal from Nolito sealing a comfortable win.

"We showed our winning mentality and great team spirit here tonight," said Andres Iniesta, who was awarded man-of-the-match.

"It depends on ourselves how far we go here, the feelings we have are very positive at the moment," he said.

Turkey could also face Uefa sanctions after sections of their support lit flares and threw firecrackers onto the pitch at full-time.

Kotoko thrash Stephen Appiah led World Stars 4-1

Asante Kotoko produced a splendid second half performance to hand a 4-1 defeat to the international select side led by former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah on Wednesday night under floodlight at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi in the Unity game.

Asante Kotoko made their intentions clear from the time the referee blew his first whistle by controlling the game. However, they missed all the opportunities created, with the likes of Halifax Sadogo, Emmanuel Osei and Frank Sarfo Gyamfi being the worst culprit. Also Richard Kingston demonstrated glimpses of his heydays antics when he stood in between the Kotoko attackers and goal in the early stages of the first half.

Colombia wrecked the United States' hopes of a winning start to the Copa America Centenario as goals from James Rodriguez and Cristian Zapata gave the South Americans a comfortable 2-0 victory on Friday.

AC Milan's Zapata and Real Madrid star Rodriguez struck in the first half before a sell-out 67 439 crowd at the Levi's Stadium in northern California to puncture American hopes of emerging from a difficult Group A.

US coach Jurgen Klinsmann's side had hoped to score an upset victory to emulate the Americans' famous defeat of Colombia at the 1994 World Cup in the United States.
