Black Stars destroyed Ethiopia 5-0 in AFCON qualifier

 Ghana have kicked off qualifying for the 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon with an emphatic 5-0 win over Ethiopia at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Asamoah Gyan put the Black Stars ahead with his 50th goal for the senior national team, heading home Thomas Agyapong’s cross in the 10th minute.

John Boye scored the second with a brilliant shot on the turn in the box before Ebenezer Ofori rifled home a beauty from outside the box to put the Stars in total control at the break.

The leader of the Minority in Parliament has assured supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), that all one hundred and six members of the opposition caucus will work hard to put the Akufo Addo government on its toes.

Addressing a charged crowd of party supporters at Ashaiman during its Silver jubilee celebration over the weekend, Haruna Iddrisu indicated that, the incumbent government is already breaking some of its promises made to Ghanaians.

The Tamale South MP, therefore, charged supporters of the party, to rally behind the Minority in its watch dog role.

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has praised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for being consistent in their values and has charged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to do same.

Speaking at a political rally at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, 10 June, the founder of the party said the “NPP are not so vulnerable” unlike the NDC and “whether you pump money into them, you try to corrupt them or not, there is a certain consistency by virtue of who and what they are and that figure, in terms of election, could invariably always be the same”.

Mahama slams Nana Addo for ‘dismissing’ public servants

Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party for what he describes as frequent dismissals of public sector workers.

Mr. Mahama believes the President is setting a bad precedent by dismissing these category of workers.

Rawlings shouldn’t reproach NDC in public, he must also listing to our advice - Allotey Jacobs

NDC Central Regional Chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs is urging the party faithful to strongly adhere to all advises given by former President and founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings to restructure the party.

According to him, Rawlings's advice will be taken in good faith as the failure of the party to listen to the advise of the founder at Cape Coast during the launch of the 2016 campaign contributed to their defeat.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Allotey Jacobs averred that inasmuch as Rawlings's advise will be taken in good faith, he [Rawlings] as well should be taking the advises coming from the party executives to be circumspect in his utterances about the party.

Ex-President Rawlings in his speech at Wa to mark June 4 celebration mentioned that the NDC has shifted from the core values of the party as greed and corruption has taken over; calling for overhaul of the current leaders of the party.

Politicians always nose around for funerals, where they can get the opportunity to unleash their venom and propaganda, insulting each other in desperation for political mileage. The situation at the funeral of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama was different. Politicians who attended the funeral exhibited maturity and decency throughout the funeral.

This time it was Ghanaians (public) who attended the funeral, who out of desperation and frustration, used the occasion to demand for the return of the former President John Dramani Mahama. The former leader who is an uncle to the deceased, entered the funeral ground quietly with his aides only to be barricaded by some of the mourners who shed tears and shouted slogans expressing regrets for voting against him in the last election. The former President's aides had to intervene to avert moves which could have affect the programme.

US SEC begins investigation into $ 2.25bn bond issue

The Minority’s petition to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission has triggered a full blown investigation into allegations of conflict of interest and insider trading in the recent 2.25 billion dollar bond issue by the Akufo-Addo government.

According to the Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a case manager, Jennifer M. Carr, has been handed the brief to commence the probe.

“I can confirm to you that the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States of America has formally communicated to us and informed us that a case manager by name Jennifer M. Carr has been appointed as the case manager on this case.”
