Judicial integrity badly damaged by Anas exposé - Akufo Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has charged judges and lawyers to rebuild the judiciary system to win back the trust and believe of Ghanaians after it was badly bruised by the Anas exposé.

“There is a consolable concern within the Ghanaian public about the integrity of our judicial system. It was badly damaged a couple of years ago by a video exposé put together by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas,” he said at a memorial event in Accra.

“Confidence, in the judicial system of any country, is necessary for a thriving democracy and economic growth, and as such, all of us, including members of the bar and the bench, have a duty to guard the integrity of the judicial process jealously.”

 President Nana Akufo-Addo has named his regional ministers in accordance with Article 256(1)(b) of the 1992 Constitution which empowers him with the prior approval of parliament, to appoint for each region, a minister who shall represent him.

The president charged all the nominees – if they are approved by the House of Parliament, to deliver on the promise of the New Patriotic Party in the various regions.

Mahama left economy in poorer shape than we anticipated - Akufo-Addo

 President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that Ghana’s economy is in a much poorer shape than he anticipated.

“I’m hearing our economy is in poor shape and I suspect from what I am hearing and the evidence that is coming to me is that it is even in poorer shape than we even anticipated,” he said.

The President's made this known on Tuesday, January 24, during the official announcement of ten additional ministerial nominees who when approved, would serve as Regional Ministers in his government.

Kwesi Pratt Calls For Reform In The Parliamentary Appointments Committee

 Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. says there should be a reform in the composition of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt expressed worry over some members of the Appointments Committee, wondering why Ministerial nominees are on the Committee.

According to him, this culture doesn't help the vetting process.

“The nominees are part of the Committee which is vetting them. I can’t understand it . . . I’ve thought about it but can’t understand it,” he said.

Ministry Releases GH¢70m To Pay Election Officials

The Ministry of Finance has directed the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to release GH¢70 million to the Electoral Commission (EC) to pay off part of the cost of the December 7, 2016 general election.

The money will assist the EC to defray part of its GH¢293 million indebtedness to election officials and companies that provided services during the December 7 general election.

According to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Patrick Nomo, the amount was to assist the EC to meet its current commitments with regard to goods and services.
