Andre Ayew |
The 26-year-old had to leave the pitch in the first half at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea following a thigh injury, and could now face lesser number of months sidelined after the West Ham chairman confirmed that the Ghanaian could be out for four months.
Bilic thinks otherwise and says it will all depend on if the player goes under the knife, which could extend his time on the sidelines or lesser if he has no need for surgery.
The Hammers manager is, however, happy to see that Ayew is "very optimistic" despite the prospect of facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
"For Andre Ayew, there are two solutions, one with surgery and one without. We are going to decide which one soon.
"He could be out for two and a half months or up to four. It shouldn't be more. He could be back this year, and we just have to hope. It would be easier to bring one or two more players in if we are in Europe because they will get more minutes.
"One player might be the difference if we are or aren't in Europe in terms of bringing people in. We've already played two games at the new stadium, but what we need to settle is to win. Hopefully that will come on Sunday.
"I spoke to Andre, and he's good. He's very optimistic and up for everything and is professional," said Bilic.
Ayew joined the Hammers from Swansea City in a fee of around £20.5 million this season.
