Chairman Afoko |
The Daily Guide news publish that the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko has refused to honor an invitation by the Disciplinary Committee of the party has been labeled a lie by his spokesperson, Lawyer Nana Yaw Osei.
The Accra-based daily, in its Wednesday edition, published that Mr. Afoko has been invited by the Committee which is chaired by Reverend Samuel Asante-Antwi to respond to charges leveled against him by the NPP’s Council of Elders.
Some of the charges are constitutional breaches, trading internal party affairs in the media contrary to laid-down procedures and authorizing the police to probe the party on an allegation of some executives opening an account in the name of the party without the knowledge of the National Chairman (Afoko) and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.
In a letter dated September 7, 2015 signed by the Chairman of the party’s Council of Elders, C.K. Tedam, and addressed to the Disciplinary Committee, he among other things demanded that at least, Chairman Afoko should be suspended from his office until after the 2016 elections.
Responding to the publication on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Lawyer Nana Yaw Osei said there is no truth in the report that the Disciplinary Committee has invited Chairman Afoko to any meeting.
“There is no truth in that publication; the story Daly Guide published is false. I have said repeatedly that nobody has called Afoko; not even the Disciplinary Committee has called him for any meeting. He is still at post,” he debunked report.
He laid emphasis on his claim of false report by Daily Guide to the fact that he, as a member of the party’s Disciplinary Committee, was cited to have attended the meeting which Paul Afoko snubbed, but hinted he was in Kumasi on the date of the supposed meeting and still remains in Kumasi.
“Daily Guide takes delight in anything which will destroy Paul Afoko. Who did Daily Guide quoted in its story to confirm that I was in the meeting? Where is the letter from the Disciplinary Committee which invited Paul Afoko to a meeting? There is no such letter which invited Afoko to any meeting,” he rubbished.
“What benefit will Daily Guide gain if it reports lies about Afoko?...the newspaper wants to speak ill about Afoko so that he would gain bad name; what do the newspaper expect NPP and Ghanaians to think about Afoko?...it simply wants to destroy the image of Paul Afoko; I don’t think this will help anybody including Daily Guide”, he fumed.
