E.L Tops VGMA List, Grabs 10 Nominations

 E.L
BBnZ’s artiste and beat producer E.L has picked up nominations in ten categories of the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), making him the artiste with the highest number of nominations for his own works.

E.L has been nominated for the Overall Best Artiste of the Year, Vodafone Song of the Year (Mi Naa Bo Po), Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year (Elom), Producer of the Year (Mi Naa Bo Po), Hiphop Song of the Year (All Black ft. Pappy Kojo and Joe B), Hiplife Song of the Year (Koko), Best Music Video (Shelele), Best Rapper (King Without a Crown) and Afro-Pop Song of the Year (Mi Naa Bo Po).

He was followed by Sarkodie who earned seven nominations for his own works and three other nominations for featuring in other musician’s works.

Dancehall diva MzVee grabbed seven nominations for her own works and VVIP got six nominations for the group’s own works.

Bisa earned six nominations for his own works and two for featuring in the works of others while Stonebwoy earned himself five nominations for his own songs and one for his collaboration with Jupiter, ‘Fire’.

How To Win

The grand event would come off at the Accra International Conference Centre on May 7 and each nominee would be relying on the general public, the VGMA Board and the VGMA Academy to win.

The VGMA board has 30 percent voting power to determine which musicians win in the various categories.

There is also the VGMA Academy which also has 30 percent voting power and then the general public which has 40 percent voting power.

The VGMA Academy is made up of about 50 distinguished industry players with a fair regional representation to cover the country. The 50 are drawn from all the ten regions and are usually brought together to vote under the supervision of KPMG.

It is significant to note, however, that the VGMA Most Popular Song of the Year category is entirely left to the public without any say from neither the VGMA Board nor the Academy.
