Government renews commitment to implementing Commission’s report

The President of the Republic of Ghana has emphasized that the report of the Commission of Inquiry into Ghana’s participation in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will be implemented.

The Black Stars for the first time in their World Cup campaign in 2014 failed to progress past the group stage, amid issues of player agitation over the delay in the payment of appearance fees.

A 3-man presidential commission of inquiry was formed to investigate the events before, during and after Ghana’s elimination from the 2014 World Cup staged in Brazil and come out with a lasting remedy to prevent future occurrences.

The Commission presented its report and government white paper was issued on the report. However, affected parties had 6 months after the government white paper to appeal against the recommendations.

A section of the public have the thinking that government is reluctant to implement the commission’s report, but President John Mahama during the state of the nation’s address has assured Ghanaians that his government will ensure the recommendations of the Commission are implemented to the latter.

“Government is committed to implementing the findings and recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry.

“However, there are some legal hurdles to do clear,” he told the Parliament of Ghana.
