Sam George and ET Mensah |
Samuel George Nartey polled a total of 4910 votes whiles incumbent ET Mensah polled a total of 2831 votes.
Provisional figures coming from the controversial primaries in the Ningo Prampram constituency have shown that Samuel George Nartey has won the ticket to contest as MP for the NDC for the Ningo Prampram constituency in the 2016 elections.
This means that the iconic ET Mensah who is currently in his 5th term as MP for the constituency has lost his seat.
Samuel George Nartey polled a total of 4910 votes whiles incumbent ET Mensah polled a total of 2831 votes.
In his victory speech Sam George called on ET Mensah to support him in winning the parliamentary seat for the NDC.
" I want to say a big thank you to all mighty god and my wife and son. The wonderful campaign team that worked tirelessly. I call him to accept me as a son. There has been no winner or no loser. Myself and ET Mensah constitute team NDC in Ningo Prampram"
The Ningo Prampram contest has been the keenest in the 2015 NDC primaries because of the apparent bad blood, and name calling that ensued between the two contenders who once upon a time, had a mentor- protege relationship.
The vote had to be called off on Saturday due to massive disagreement over the sanctity of the voters' register as far as the total registered voters in the constituency was concerned.
Aspirant George Samuel Nartey demanded that the election be postponed alleging that some 3000 voters could not be found in the register in the last minute.
NDC Greater Accra regional Chairman, Ade Coker came out to deny the allegations by Sam George, however the vote did not come off.
Later on Saturday, pockets of violence erupted between the camps of the two aspirants, with Samuel George Nartey being punched in the face by one of ET Mensah's aides.
Incumbent ET Mensah called for a recount when initial provisional results placed Sam George in the lead.
E T Mensah who was hoping to get the nod for the last time has been in parliament since 1992.
His defeat signifies that the people of Ningo Prampram are tired of having the same representation since 1992.
While Sam George campaigned on the premise that he is youthful and represents the interest of the youth, E T Mensah's message was to be given the final chance to finish a grand modern settlement plan for the constituency after securing a district.
