Amoako Baah - NPP to attract more voters after Agyepong, Crabbe suspension

Dr. Amoako Baah
The Head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Amoako Baah  has debunked claims that the New Patriotic Party's suspension of General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, and Second National Vice-Chairman, Mr Sammy Crabbe will affect the fortunes of the party in the upcoming elections.

According to him, the two were causing confusion within the party, hence their suspension will rather attract more followers to the party.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party on Thursday affirmed the decision of the party's Disciplinary Committee to suspend its Second National Vice-Chairman, Mr Sammy Crabbe, and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

Their suspension follows a petition by some aggrieved party members who accused them of undermining the party’s authority by publicly rebelling against its decision to indefinitely suspend Mr Paul Afoko.

The move has been argued by some, including a founding member of the NPP, Arthur Kennedy, as one that will weaken the party's bid to win power in 2016.

But, speaking to Pulse.com.gh, Dr. Amoako said the suspension is in the right direction.

"Once you bring peace in the party, you are likely to get even more supporters joining you than sitting there and allowing the two to mess it up. And no doubt at all, it is more likely you will get more people; people who are not members; people who are waiting for calm to  return to the party so they can join."

He further believed that the NPP should have suspended the two much earlier, adding that "if you do something like this earlier, people have time to heal."
