Sammy Crabbe Challenges Suspension

Sammy Crabbe
The suspended Second Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Sammy Crabbe has said he is still holding on to his position in the party.

According to him, the party’s decision to suspend him and the General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong was in breach of the party’s constitution. Mr Crabbe and Mr Agyepong were on Thursday suspended indefinitely  by the NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) following a petition by some members of the party who accused Messrs Crabbe and Agyepong of undermining the party’s authority by publicly rebelling against its decision to indefinitely suspend its National Chairman, Mr Paul Afoko.

Mr Crabbe refused to appear before the Disciplinary Committee describing it as illegal.

In an interview on Metro TV Thursday evening, Mr Crabbe said he was still at post as the party’s Second Vice-Chair.

“Nobody has suspended me…We have a constitution… The constitution was designed to make it almost impossible to remove an officer and to rather push toward dialogue”, he said.

Mr Crabbe also noted that the party was in disarray which if not attended to could affect the fortunes of the party at the 2016 General Elections.

“We have a serious disorder in our party and that in my view is our greatest threat to our quest for victory in 2016. So you don’t disturb that order,” he said.

Mr Crabbe also accused some members of the party of being “armchair politicians who create all kinds of problems for everyone.”

“…And what upsets me most is when I hear some of those people say we are suspending him. They’ve never even picked up a form to contest any elections in this party before,” he said.
