Power Minister - 'If people want me to resign, fine'

Dr. Kwabena Donkor
The Minister for Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has said he has no qualms about the fact that people want him to vacant his post over for his failure to end the power crisis as promised.

“It is about my going? If it’s my going that people want, that is fine,” the Minister said in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM.

Following his appointment by President John Mahama last year, Dr. Kwabena Donkor made an audacious promise to end the three-year power crisis popularly known as ‘dumsor’ by close of 2015 or else he will resign.

With less than a week to the close of the year, the power challenges still persists and calls for his resignation intensified when the Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor resigned over the $3.6million bus re-branding scandal.

During his appearance before the Government Assurances Committee in Parliament on Wednesday, the embattled Minister assured Ghanaians that his Ministry was working to meet the deadline.

He urged Ghanaians to be patient because the year is not yet over. He however asked for an extension of the deadline to January 2016.

In the Joy FM interview, Dr. Donkor remarked that “if you set an exam and somebody gets maybe 99%, it is not possible to say that the person has done extremely well?”

He however denied asking for an extension of the deadline saying, “I said give or take, two weeks; that is all I have said. I am not changing the deadline. I said that to Parliament when I met the Committee.”
