Robbers shoot driver, attack passengers in Western region
The Western Regional Police Command has mounted a manhunt for four armed robbers who robbed some travellers at Bonsu Nkwanta on Saturday night.
The robbers shot one driver and robbed several of the passengers on board of their belonging, including mobile phones and cash worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
One of the victims, who narrated the incident to Accra-based Joy FM said “we were from Bonsu to Kumasi and along the way, we heard a loud noise so we stopped thinking that some items had dropped from our vehicle.
“As soon as we stopped, one of the robbers fired a gun into the driver’s windscreen, hitting him and some of the passengers. They then entered the vehicle and robbed us of our belongings.”
Another victim recounted “all I saw was a bullet hitting the driver, myself and two other. They then asked as to lie on the road and took away all our monies. I’m a trader. They took about 1,700 cedis from me.”
Confirming the incident, Juaboso Station Officer, Chief Inspector Gabriel Nanewotor said the victims are receiving treatment at the SDA Hospital.
He said the police will ensure that the robbers are apprehended for justice to be served.
