Attack On Supreme Court Unwarranted – Judicial Council
The Judicial Council has described as unwarranted, attacks on the Supreme Court judges hearing the Abu Ramadan case on the voters’ register.
Two panelists of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) on a pro-government radio station, Montie FM, vowed to deal with the judges whom they deemed to be unduly entertaining the opposition politicians challenging the validity the of the electoral roll.
Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn said the judges would be eliminated before they create chaos in the country.
The comments have attracted wide public condemnation and criticism.
The Judicial Council in a statement after an emergency meeting Monday, said it viewed “the statements as a blatant attack on the Judiciary which has the potential to undermine the independence of the institution of the rule of law.”
The Council’s meeting was attended by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Opong and Interior Minister Prosper Bani.

Both ministers, the statement noted, “dissociated the government and the governing party from the aid statement.”
